Watch: YouTuber calls ‘God Hates Fags’ church to ask how to get into heaven
A YouTuber who received homophobic messages from the Westboro Baptist Church has called them to ask how to get into heaven.
Irish vlogger Riyadh Khalaf posted a video last month in which he let his mum read his Grindr messages – racking up nearly 2 million views.
However, the video also attracted a number of homophobic messages – including from Shirley Phelps-Roper of the notoriously homophobic Westboro Baptist Church, who used the word ‘fag’ 41 times while leaving comments.
Not deterred by her hateful comments – which claimed “this is what happens when fag enablers turn the country to the fags” – the internet star decided to give Ms Phelps-Roper a call.
Mr Khalaf said: “Ideally I’d go to heaven, I mean, that’s the plan. Now I’m thinking: what am I doing wrong? She knows, so I better give her a call.”
The anti-gay activist – the daughter of deceased pastor Fred Phelps, and figurehead of the hate group – did not seem to be happy receiving the call.
Phelps-Roper ranted: “Yikes. You are heading straight to hell, God hates fags. God hates you.”
She then hangs up the phone, concluding: “Read the word and obey your God.”
Mr Khalaf left a voicemail asking: “If I burn all of my Lady GaGa CDs, will that get me into heaven?
“If I chop off my quiff and get a buzz cut, can I get into heaven then? If I promise to have any gay sexual relations on a Sunday, can I get into heaven?”
