Leader of ‘gay sex slave’ ring facing 155 years behind bars
A Hungarian man who enslaved men for sex in his Miami home has been found guilty, and could be facing a prison sentence of up to 155 years.
25-year old Andras Janos Vass was charged with human trafficking and racketeering last week, the Miami Herald reports.
Vass has been prosecuted for running a company called Never Sleep Inc, where young men in their early 20s were forced into sex slavery for up to 20 hours a day.
Several of the young men had been lured from Hungary to the prostitution ring in the US in 2012 – and were freed shortly after Vass and two other captors were arrested.
The captors made up to an alleged $40,000 each per month.
Court documents state that Vass met three of his victims online, and told them they would earn between $300 and $5000 a month working as male escorts.
However, as soon as the men arrived in the US, they were coerced into a cramped one-bedroom flat with up to eight other male prostitutes, and forced to work around the clock without pay.
Their travel documents were confiscated by Vass to prevent them from escaping, and they were threatened with death when they asked to leave.
The sex operation was discovered after the victims were moved from New York to Miami, where neighbours reported unusual behaviour.
A spokesperson for Miami Homeland Security Investigations said: “This case serves as a reminder that sex trafficking is not limited to any particular race, gender, age or sexual orientation.”
It took just 30 minutes for the jury to convict Vass, while his partners in crime, Gabor Acs and Viktor Berki are awaiting trial.
Vass will be sentenced in June, and is facing a potential maximum prison sentence of 155 years.
