An English teacher marked the grammar on a UKIP leaflet… they didn’t do well
A bored English teacher has marked a leaflet she received from UKIP councillors – and their work definitely requires improvement.
Suzy, an English teacher from Somerset, shared a picture of the leaflet from Frome councillors Derek Tanswell and Sharon Snook, regarding car parking charges in the town.
The teacher went over the leaflet in red pen – pointing out basic spelling and grammar errors, unintelligible sentences and typos.
Suzy told the Mirror: “There is no shame in finding spelling, grammar and punctuation difficult. Some of my nearest and dearest have ‘issues’.
“However, if candidates in Frome either do not recognise their weaknesses, or are too slapdash and careless to get them proofread, that does not bode well for running anything.
“I teach children who speak English as an Additional Language, and some of them could teach Mr Tanswell a thing or two!”
Ironically, UKIP often demands that immigrants must have an acceptable standard of English before coming to the UK.
During last night’s BBC Leaders’ Debate, party leader Nigel Farage repeated for a third time a claim that the NHS shouldn’t treat “foreigners with HIV” – despite his previous statistics being proven to be false.
Scottish UKIP leader David Coburn said earlier this week that he compared a Muslim government minister to a terrorist because he’s “got a sense of humour”.
