Out gay diver Tom Daley poses at the Kremlin in Moscow
Out gay Olympic diver Tom Daley has been praised for posting a photo of himself in front of the Kremlin in Moscow.
Russia passed a law in 2013, banning the “promotion of non-traditional” sexual orientations, and has been widely condemned since, including calls to boycott the Sochi Winter Olympics last year.
Daley posed in front of the Kremlin alongside fellow divers Chris Mears and Jack Laugher.
Despite not having made any explicit political statement with the photo, which simply read “Three amigos”, Daley was praised by supporters for being publicly visible in the country.
He also posed in front of St Basil’s Cathedral.
Later that day, Daley posted a photo of Laugher and fellow diver Alicia Blagg playing Twister .
The Olympic diver and screenwriter boyfriend Dustin Lance Black earlier this year offered a double date as part of a competition for the Human Rights Campaign in the US, and the Brain Tumour Charity in the UK.
Celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Madonna have been threatened with prosecution for breaching the law.
