Bruce Jenner’s ex-wife speaks about his transition
Bruce Jenner’s second wife Linda Thompson has written of her support for him.
Jenner, an Olympic gold medal winner and reality TV star, came out as trans on Friday.
Actress Linda Thompson, who was married to Jenner for five years in the 1980s, wrote a column for The Huffington Post in which she discusses her feelings on his transition.
“I have respectfully kept his secrets private and would have taken his confidences to my grave had he not spoken out.
“After having harboured his secret, and feeling in my heart and mind that I have protected him through these years, I can now breathe a little easier, knowing he now has found the strength and the courage to fulfill his dream.
“He can finally realize his need to be who he authentically is, who he was born to be. That takes tremendous courage. For that I commend him.
“Bruce has already “gone through the fire,” suffered unfathomable discomfort and pain, been held prisoner in his own flesh. It is certainly not our place to judge him or others who may feel trapped, ostracised, or alone.”
She discussed her time with Jenner, and when their children began to notice his transition. “I was trying to shield Brandon and Brody from the truth and protect Bruce at the same time. It was exhausting.”
On Saturday, Laverne Cox spoke about her support of Jenner and what he said when she spoke to him.
