One of Ireland’s biggest TV stars has released a video in support of equal marriage.

The Republic of Ireland is set to vote on May 22 on a proposal to introduce civil same-sex marriage.

Ahead of the referendum, Mrs Brown – the creation of comedian Brendan O’Carroll – shares her views on equal marriage and discusses why she will be voting yes in the marriage referendum.

She says: “Nothing beats the joy and contentment I feel knowing that my son Rory has just as much opportunity for happiness as everybody elseā€™s son. And thatā€™s all I ask for him, the opportunity.”

Using herĀ trademarkĀ colourful language, she asks: “When two people love each other, you should allow then to get married. Whatā€™s all the fecking fuss?”

During the video, which has gone viral on social media Mrs Brown recognises that some oppose same-sex marriage, but compares this to past hostility towards people of different races and religions marrying.

Regardless of their views, Mrs Brown urges people to vote, saying: ā€œThatā€™s the important thingā€.

However, she also states that the younger generation should seize ā€œtheir chance to make a change.ā€

In January, Mrs Brownā€™s Boys star Eilish Oā€™Carroll urged people to back same-sex marriage in the countryā€™s upcoming referendum.

Earlier this month, Grammy nominated singer Hozier also made an impassioned video urging people to vote for marriage equality.
