The US Supreme Court just rejected a challenge to New Jersey’s ‘gay cure’ ban
The US Supreme Court has rejected a challenge to the state of New Jersey’s ban on performing ‘gay cure’ therapy on minors.
The court rejected the challenge on Monday as it declined to hear the case against it.
In effect, today’s decision upheld a decision by the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeal in September, which upheld the ban.
This decision is now the final say on the issue.
As well as rejecting the challenge to the law, which was signed by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie in August 2013, the court also said those bringing the challenge, Christian counselling groups and licensed therapists, lacked standing to bring the case on behalf of their minor clients.
The case was brought by two counsellors, the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality, and the American Association of Christian Counselors.
The Supreme Court in 2014 declined to take another case challenging the state of California’s ban on the widely condemned practice.
