Lawyer still wants California to vote on his ‘Sodomite Suppression Act’
A lawyer in California has threatened to force a ballot on a proposed law that would punish homosexuality with death.
Anti-gay activist Matt McLaughlin filed a ballot initiative earlier this year calling for a ‘Sodomite Suppression Act’ earlier this year, which aims to bring “God’s wrath” down on homosexuals and the LGBT community.
McLaughlin would usually have to gather signatures from 5% of the voters in California – which is around 350,000 people – but after
Attorney General Kamala Harris attempted to stop it from circulating, he has now threatened to sue to put it on the ballot directly.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, he declined to fight an attempt to quash circulation.
He said: “Costly litigation is not something that you may require me to incur prior to exercising my rights under both the California Constitution and the initiative statute.
“Take notice that if your office and the California secretary of state refuse to clear the Sodomite Suppression Act for signature circulation, I may demand as remedy that it be placed on the election ballot directly.”
The law states: “The abominable crime against nature known as buggery, called also sodomy, is a monstrous evil that Almighty God, giver of freedom and liberty, commands us to suppress on pain of our utter destruction even as he overthrew Sodom and Gomorrha.
“Seeing that it is better that offenders should die rather than that all of us should be killed by God’s just wrath against us for the folly of tolerating-wickedness in our midst, the People of California wisely command, in the fear of God, that any person who willingly touches another person of the same gender for purposes of sexual gratification be put to death by bullets to the head or by any other convenient method.”
