Misfits star: You’re ‘basically homophobic’ if you oppose same-sex marriage
Misfits star Robert Sheehan has encouraged people in Ireland to vote in favour of same-sex marriage – saying that anyone who votes against is “basically homophobic”.
The Republic of Ireland is set to vote on May 22 on a proposal to introduce civil same-sex marriage.
Sheehan – who starred as Nathan in teen superhero series Misfits – urged people in Ireland to come out in support of equality.

He said in a video: “Hi guys, Robert Sheehan saying vote yes for gay equality in Ireland and the rest of the world, because let’s face it if you vote no, you’re saying that gay people shouldn’t have the same rights as straight people and you’re basically homophobic.”
He is the latest in a string of stars to support equality, with Irish Sherlock star Andrew Scott posing with ‘Yes Equality’ signs last week.
Actor Cillian Murphy has also attacked the “negative” exploitation of children by the ‘no’ campaign during the debate, claiming it was being turned unfairly into a referendum on gay families.
He said: “The forthcoming same sex marriage referendum relates to adults’ human right to marry whom they chose regardless of sexual orientation.”
“Divisive negative issues raised in relation to children and their welfare are being used to deflect from the core question in the referendum.”
