Elton John reveals plans for new Billy Elliott the Musical film
Sir Elton John has revealed plans to make a film out of his stage show Billy Elliott the Musical.
The announcement was made this week after the show’s 10th anniversary performance.
Speaking after the event, Sir Elton told the BBC: “It would be lovely to do a film version.
“There are other songs that we had had to leave out of the musical that would be great in the film.”
Sir Elton, who wrote the music for the stage musical of Billy Elliot, also wrote for The Times to celebrate the play’s ten year anniversary.
The musical tells the story of a young boy from a northern mining town in the 1980s, who discovers his passion for ballet, and his father’s journey to accept his son’s talent.
The Rocket Man singer also joked that he would like to play Billy’s grandmother in the new film.
He said: “You can only do so much on stage with the material you’ve got and the length of the show, so I think if one did a movie of this show it would be nice to change some things and maybe put something fresh in.”
A UK tour of Billy Elliott has also been announced.
Sir Elton was recently named Britain’s most generous celebrity.
He spoke at the US Senate this month on the need to continue funding the fight against HIV.
