Oops! BBC journalist calls Nigel Farage a ‘c**t’ live on air
The week couldn’t get much worse for Nigel Farage. Half his party is calling him names after his electoral failure – and now the BBC is getting in on the act too.
The politician – who has suffered stinging attacks from his own party members following his decision to ‘un-resign’ as leader – was the subject of an awkward slip this morning on BBC News.
Chief Political Correspondent Norman Smith was talking about MEP Patrick O’Flynn’s attack on his leader, whom he described as becoming “snarling, thin-skinned, aggressive”.
However, Smith made an awkward slip when recounting Mr O’Flynn’s criticism that the party “looks like an absolutist monarchy or a personality cult” – accidentally referring to a “personality c**t”.
He tried to recover from the gaffe, correcting himself to “cult”, before continuing with his report.
In addition to Mr O’Flynn, the party’s former MEP Godfrey Bloom – who was sacked over allegations of sexism and homophobia – has also broken ranks to condemn Mr Farage’s leadership.
He said: “He is very popular with the membership, but sooner or later UKIP is going to have to decide whether they want someone who’s popular in the UKIP conference hall, or popular with the electorate
“I would suggest that the leadership should come from the person who has been elected in Westminster. The fight is from Westminster now, which means Douglas Carswell.”
