Apparently, Benjy the gay bull wants to vote for same-sex marriage in Ireland
Same-sex marriage in Ireland has had a number of big-name celebrity endorsements – and now it’s been backed by Benjy the gay bull.
As regular readers might remember, Benjy the bull from County Mayo was originally facing slaughter last year because he showed more interest in other bulls than in cows.
However, after Simpsons co-creator Sam Simon stumped up the money to buy him, Benjy was moved to Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norwich, England.
However, the Irish-at-heart bull has thrown his weight behind equal marriage ahead of Friday’s referendum in Ireland – at least according to the Animal Rights Action Network.
ARAN has been advocating for a yes vote based on the prominence of homosexuality in nature – claiming: “Benjy, the ‘gay’ bull, who became an international symbol for animal and gay rights late last year, would also vote yes.”
ARAN founder John Carmody told the Irish Mirror: “Benjy became an international symbol of animal and gay rights last year and made quiet a lot of country and town folk who would have never thought otherwise about animals being gay, think twice about the fact that being gay is a natural occurrence in not only humans, but bulls, bears, penguins and even gorillas.
“When it comes to a yes vote for Benjy, we know only too well that he would if he could.”
Unfortunately, only humans are eligible to vote in Friday’s referendum.
