Anti-gay former GovernorĀ Rick Perry who has in the past compared homosexuality to alcoholism, has announced his bid to become US President.

Perry, who was previously the Governor of Texas, and is notorious for his anti-gay comments, launched rickperry.org today.

In a video on the site, both of which were paid for by Perry for President Inc, Perry calls for a President who will tell “people the truth”.

ā€œIf weā€™re going to revive this American dream again, we need a president who provides leadership that transcends the petty partisanship that weā€™ve seen in the last few years, someone thatā€™s been tested,” he says.

ā€œWe need a president who will tell the American people the truth.ā€

He is one of the most notorious anti-gay Republicans,Ā having comparedĀ homosexuality to alcoholismĀ and regularly speaking at anti-gayĀ rallies.

Perry attempted to back away from the comparison,Ā claimingĀ he got ā€œdeflectedā€ onto a ā€œcontentious issueā€.

HeĀ last year said he was ā€œgreatly disappointedā€ that the Boy Scouts would begin to allow gay members.
