Primark now lets trans customers use fitting rooms they feel most comfortable with
Primark has given some useful advice to staff who might be unsure of what to do if faced with a transgender customer.
As well as advising all staff in its handbook that transgender customers should be allowed to use the changing room of their choice, the handbook goes on to say what to do “when in doubt”.
The handbook page, which was sent to PinkNews by a reader, and which has been confirmed as genuine by Primark, reads: “Customers should be comfortable when they try anything on, so transgender people may use whichever fitting room they choose.
It goes on: “When in doubt it’s pretty easy to know what to do – just give the same level of great service to everyone!”
A Primark spokesman told PinkNews: “It is Primark policy to allow all transgender customers to use the fitting rooms of their choice in Primark stores. As you can imagine all our staff are trained on this.”
This comes after last month, a trans woman in Ipswich said she had been denied access to the women’s changing room at her local branch of Primark. She was told be a shop assistant to use the men’s changing room instead.
