Did Kristen Stewart’s mother just out her to a tabloid?
A tabloid newspaper has carried an interview with the mother of Twilight actress Kristen Stewart – in which she claims her daughter has a girlfriend.
The star, who was previously linked to a string of men including Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, usually refuses to speak about her own private life and sexuality.
However, the Sunday Mirror carried an interview with Jules Stewart, the star’s mum, in which she claimed her daughter is in a relationship Alicia Cargile.
Stewart’s mother said: “What’s not to be accepting about her now having a girlfriend? She’s happy.
“She’s my daughter, I’m just her mum so she knows I would accept her choices.
“I’ve met Kristen’s new girlfriend, I like her. What’s not to accept? She’s a lovely girl.
She continued: “I feel like people need to be free to love whoever they want. I accept my daughter loves women and men.
“It’s OK to be who you are in my world. We all choose our friends so we should be free to choose our lovers.”
It is not known if Kristen Stewart gave permission for her mother to discuss her dating life in the interview.
Earlier this year Stewart addressed tabloid rumours about her sexuality, after photos were published of her on holiday with Cargile.
She said of the newspaper reports: “There’s a whole other form of entertainment that’s just voraciously consumed in itself.”
Co-star Julianne Moore rescued her from the question, interjecting: “For her, especially, there’s been so much interest in Kristen for the longest time.
“Because of the size of the movies she’s been involved in when she was very young, it’s hard to escape that.
“I think that it’s also a form of entertainment. I think you have to take all that stuff with a grain of salt, and she often does.”
