Seth MacFarlane refuses to explain why Family Guy mocked Caitlyn Jenner
Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has refused to discuss his show’s mocking of Caityln Jenner, long before she came out as transgender.
The former Olympian and Keeping Up With the Kardashians star was routinely savaged by tabloids for her appearance, before she publicly came out as trans last month.
Animated series Family Guy repeatedly joined in poking fun at Jenner – and in one satirical clip from 2009, characters Brian and Stewie argue over Jenner’s gender.
Brian claims Jenner is a “man”, to which Stewie ‘satirically’ replies: “No, Brian, that’s what the press would have you believe but he’s not. Bruce Jenner is a woman. An elegant, beautiful, Dutch woman.”
Another clip saw Jenner performing a burlesque routine for a group of sailors.
Speaking to press about Ted 2, MacFarlane said he is “too savvy to comment on the issue to the media.”
According to Huffington Post, he said: “Once the outrage industry shuts down, I will be happy to have an adult conversation about all of this stuff any time anyone wants, but, even though I’m on the side of support, I just don’t think there’s any way to.
“You just got to play it safe because the climate is just too charged. Anything I say can and will be used against me.”
He added: “My philosophy is live and let live, and if something makes someone happy, and they’re able to do it — as long as it isn’t hurting anybody — live and let live.”
MacFarlane added that he doesn’t want to offend anyone with his comedy.
He said: “Nobody sets out to offend or shock for the sake of shocking. You set out to get laughs.”
