‘Gender-neutral’ toilets open in another UK university
The University of Northampton has opened gender-neutral toilets by popular demand of their students.
The new toilets are entirely gender neutral and are installed for the use of anyone not feeling comfortable with using male or female toilets
A member of the students union, Victor Agboola said: “There is a growing population of trans students, with those who identify as transgender, non-binary or are inter-sex.
“Some students would be more comfortable using gender-neutral toilets and at the start of this academic year we had a number of students here visit the Students’ Union and tell us exactly that.”
The university responded actively to the demands of their students: “There will be no situation in which two people of any gender identity will be in the same room, ensuring they can feel comfortable using the space.”
Northampton University is not the only institution introducing these type of toilets. The University of California, West Hollywood and The White House have also done so.
“In a symbol of solidarity with the LGBT community, the Obama administration has unveiled a gender-neutral bathroom within the White House.”
“The White House allows staff and guests to use restrooms consistent with their gender identity, which is in keeping with the Administration’s existing legal guidance on this issue and consistent with what is required by the Executive Order”
