Uber announces partnership with Stonewall and Pride donations
Following a number of homophobic incidents reported by users, on demand car service Uber has announced a partnership with Stonewall.
Uber will enrol in Stonewall’s Diversity Champions Programme, and in addition, the LGBT charity will advise Uber on its driver training programme.
As well as training its drivers to do better in terms of diversity, Uber has pledged to donate £2 to Pride in London for any new users who sign up this weekend using the promo code “RIDEWITHPRIDE15”.
Users who take advantage of the offer will also get up to £15 off their first ride.
Jo Bertram, Regional General Manager for Uber in the UK said, “Uber already has a zero tolerance policy with regards to any kind of discrimination. However we want to go above and beyond to ensure that we are doing all we can to make sure our partner drivers and our staff are as well trained as possible on all diversity issues. We’re hugely excited about this partnership and looking forward to working closely with Stonewall.”

PinkNews reported last month that a London Uber driver was suspended – after kicking out a gay passenger because of his sexuality.
A separate couple, Corey Watts and his boyfriend Jordan Sloan,said in January that they were kicked out an Uber after they kissed.
The same week, another couple were told by an Uber driver that it “was against the Uber rules” for them to hug – and were subjected to homophobic comments.
