Amazon has already ordered a third season of Transparent
Amazon has already ordered a third season of transgender TV show Transparent – before the second season has even aired.
The comedy-drama series, which aired its first season last year to rave reviews, features Jeffrey Tambor as transgender woman Maura, who comes out to her children and transitions later in life.
It is set to return later this year for a second run, which showrunner Jill Soloway previously hinted will reference the transition of Caitlyn Jenner, given her striking similarities to Maura.
However, before the show’s second run has even aired, Amazon has announced that it has greenlit a third run – and signed an exclusivity deal with Soloway.
Tambor (Moira Pfefferman), Judith Light (Shelly Pfefferman), Gaby Hoffmann (Ali Pfefferman), Amy Landecker (Sarah Pfefferman) and Jay Duplass (Josh Pfefferman) have all signed up to return.
Soloway said: “I am so thrilled that I get to share more of the Pfeffermans’ story with the world.
“We are all so in love with watching them change and grow. I am blown away by the creative freedom Amazon gives me and I can’t wait to reveal where this journey is going to take us.”
Amazon Studios VP Roy Price said: “Jill is truly a creative force and I’m thrilled that we will be collaborating with her additional projects in the future and on a third season of Transparent.
“The second season is currently starting production, and I know our customers will be delighted to continue the journey with Maura and the Pfefferman family.”
