Columnist Owen Jones clashes with Hollywood actor Rob Lowe, instantly regrets it
Columnist Owen Jones has entered into a bizarre Twitter spat with actor Rob Lowe – after the pair clashed over the Greek economy.
The Parks & Rec star sparked the row when he disparagingly claimed the left-wing Greek PM gives “zero f$$ks” about his country’s economic crisis, because he does not wear a tie.
Guardian columnist and political commentator Owen Jones – who has voiced his support for the Greek government – hit back, claiming Lowe should “stick to the increasingly unwatchable films”.
Lowe retorted: “I’ll try to do better than the multiple Emmy’s, Golden Globes and BAFTA’s my last one won. Do your homework pal.”
The row has attracted the attention of a surreal range of figures, from original X Factor winner Steve Brookstein, Duncan Bannantyne of Dragon’s Den, and former Tory MP Louise Mensch.
All of them piled on to praise Lowe for his quick comeback.
Lowe was previously nominated for a Golden Globe in 2014 for his role in Behind the Candelabra, a biopic of gay pianist Liberace.
