Trans radio host Stephanie Hirst set to return to airwaves
Popular radio host Stephanie Hirst, who quit her show after announcing her transition to female, is set to make a return to the airwaves.
The popular Yorkshire radio presenter, who previously hosted the ‘Hirsty’s Daily Dose’ breakfast show on Capital FM Yorkshire, came out as trans in October.
After it was alleged that Ms Hirst was suspended from Global Radio when she announced her plans to come out, she received a huge outpouring of support from her local and national fans – who spearheaded a campaign to get her back on the airwaves.
The campaign appears to have now succeeded – with Ms Hirst set to return to a new weekly show on BBC Radio Manchester.
She said: “My love of radio has been well documented and I always said I would return, but I wanted to ensure that my return is gentle and allows me time to grow into a broadcaster as Stephanie.
“BBC Radio Manchester has offered me the chance to do just this and ease myself in with a wonderful production team and the support of the corporation as a whole.
“I’m excited and looking forward to getting back behind the mic, playing my favourite 90’s records and talking to callers each Saturday night across Manchester.”
The new show, which will be titled ‘Stephanie Hirst and Nothing but the Nineties’ – and will debut on Saturday July 4, at 10 PM.
BBC Radio Manchester’s Managing Editor Kate Squire added: “It’s fantastic that Stephanie is returning to the airwaves at BBC Radio Manchester – she’s a brilliant broadcaster, and should be on air.
“It’s going to be a fabulous show and I know that our listeners will love her!”
Ms Hirst has recently appeared in a recurring role on ITV daytime talk show Lorraine.
