People misheard a Wimbledon commentator and thought he was homophobic
A tennis commentator has caused confusion online – after Twitter users misheard his comments as a gay slur.
Retired Australian champ Pat Cash was doing live commentary at Wimbledon this afternoon alongside John Inverdale, on a match between Roger Federer and Sam Groth.
While discussing the merits of serve-volleys, he said: “I always tell my kids, all the baseliners, the serve-volleyers are real game, real men.
“We’re the game ones. Chickens like you stand at the back of the court.”
However, a lot of people appeared to mishear Cash – and his comments caused considerable confusion on Twitter.
People took to the social network demanding that Cash apologise for his comments…
…but not everyone was convinced.
Same-sex marriage is currently a hot topic in Cash’s native Australia, with a cross-party same-sex marriage bill set to come before Parliament in August.
Ahead of the vote, the National Rugby League has come out in favour of marriage equality.
Australia is not afraid of a little innuendo when it comes to tennis.
