‘Girls?!’ Equalities minister Nicky Morgan chides photographer’s greeting
Equalities minister Nicky Morgan seemed unimpressed with a photographer’s greeting on Downing Street.
The Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Equalities was snapped yesterday as she a left Downing Street cabinet meeting, alongside Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Amber Rudd.
However, Ms Morgan did not seem impressed when a photographer yelled “Morning girls!” at the pair.
As the press nervously laughed, she questioned “girls?”.
When the photographer realises his mistake and apologises, she points at him and says “thank you!” – before continuing.
Ms Rudd did not seem phased by the incident.
NIcky Morgan recently warned about the danger of extremism in schools – and said that homophobic could be a warning sign of radicalisation.
Asked to give an example of behaviour that could be concerning, she said: “For example, as we’ve seen, sadly, ISIL are extremely intolerant of homosexuality. I think if there were language – I’m not going to get into examples.”
When asked if a child describing homosexuality as “evil” would be a warning sign of extremism, she said: “It could trigger a thought, it would depend very much on the context in which that is being discussed.”
Ms Morgan, who was appointed as Minister for Equalities last year, voted against same-sex marriage in 2013.
However, after her appointment she told PinkNews she had changed her mind on the issue, and would now “probably” vote in favour.
