Three arrested in Philadelphia gay bashing considering plea deals
Three people arrested following a brutal attack on a gay man in Philadelphia last year are now considering plea deals, it has been reported.
Kevin Harrigan, Kathryn Knott and Philip Williams, who were arrested last October in connection with the attack on two gay men, are all considering plea deals, according to PhillyMag.
They were all charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and conspiracy, and all remain on bail.
The attack left one of the victims in hospital with a broken jaw and two broken cheekbones.
Ahead of the trial later this year, PhillyMag reports that sources on both sides of the case confirmed that the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office had offered plea deals.
Attorneys for Knott and Williams told the website that they were considering the deals, without saying what they were. Harrigan’s attorney did not confirm either way.
It is unclear whether any of the three will take the deals.
Reports at the time suggested that Williams and Harrigan were the physical aggressors behind the attack, Knott received a backlash after her public Twitter feed displayed homophobic messages.
While the Philadelphia DA’s office does not comment on plea deals, a spokesman did tell PhillyMag that if convicted, the three could face 34 or 68 years in prison.
Should no plea deals be taken, jury selection is expected to take place later this year.
