This soldier just shut down anyone who says Caitlyn Jenner is not a hero
A soldier has shut down arguments against Caitlyn Jenner being given a courage award.
The former Olympian, 65, received a standing ovation on Wednesday night (July 15) as she walked on stage to accept the Arthur Ashe Courage Award in what was the star’s first major public appearance as a transgender woman.
However, the decision to award Jenner with the ESPY Award has been criticised since it was announced, with some claiming that war veteran Noah Galloway was “runner up” for the award.
Those claims have been disproven, as ESPN confirmed that there is no runner up, but others ahve said late college basketball player, Lauren Hill should have been posthumously awarded the prize.
Many people have also suggested that the prize would be better suited to other US military members.
This soldier, however, Joey Vicente took to Facebook to succinctly shut down any argument against given the award to Jenner.
The 23-year-old wrote on his Facebook page: “Your definition of what or who a hero can or cannot be is irrelevant.
“What if I told you that her speech last night saved even one human being from attempting to take their life. I’d call that a victory on any scale.”
Speaking to BuzzFeed news, Vicente said: “Bigotry in any form is unacceptable and I guess I was just fed up with seeing people’s offensive remarks about a person they know nothing about.
“I posted what I posted because it’s what I feel.”
He added, “I joined the service and picked my job because I love helping people. I love positivity and I love my country.”
