Caitlyn Jenner’s Olympic Torch is up for sale

The torch that Caitlyn Jenner carried in the 1984 Summer Olympics is set to sell at auction for $20,000.
Caitlyn Jenner, who has become arguably the world’s most famous person after coming out earlier this year, first rose to fame by winning the gold medal in decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
Eight years later, Jenner was recruited by Bob Lorsch to run the final 1,000 meters Lake Tahoe stretch of the torch relay for the 1984 Olympics – and now Lorsch has put the torch up for auction.
Before the stretch, Caitlyn reportedly joked: “I can’t stand running. And anyway I know people will laugh at me when they see my knees. But it’s for a good cause, so I’ll do it.”
It is the first piece of Olympic memorabilia that has gone on sale since April – and is rumoured to fetch over $20,000.
The torch is being sold by the Sports Auction at Heritage. Heritage director Chris Ivy said: “The torch serves as a wonderful symbol that masculinity and femininity are not mutually exclusive.
“Other than trinkets and signed memorabilia, this is the first piece of what I would consider significant Jenner memorabilia to reach the auction block.
“Perhaps no athlete in history has travelled a more winding road through the various states of celebrity than Jenner.”
After a petition was struck down for Caitlyn’s previous Olympic medals to be removed, the fact that her torch is now up for sale and for such a high price, is incredibly important to celebrating her Olympic legacy.
The brass torch will be hitting the block at Platinum Night Sports Auction in Chicago on July 30th.
