Study shows that US support for same-sex marriage rising
A study has been released revealing that support for same-sex marriage has increased in many US demographics.
Yesterday, a public opinion survey – published based on 2015 polling results – stated that 55 percent of Americans back same-sex marriage, with 39 percent in opposition.
In comparison to 2001, public opinion has almost reversed. 14 years ago, 57 percent disagreed with the issue.
Pew Research also polled according to attitudes by generation, religious affiliation, political party, political ideology, race and gender.
The most massive amount of support is generated by the religiously unaffiliated- 82 percent in favour – and the liberals – 79 percent in favour.
The poll also proved the notion that younger generations are more open-minded than those prior.
While Democrats are now 66 percent in favor and Independents rank with 61 percent, Republicans are improving gradually from 21 percent in 2001 to 32 percent in 2015.
Those who identify as Conservatives rank even lower, with only 30 percent in favour of same-sex marriage.
According to gender, women have maintained the stronghold of support they have held since 2001.
Almost all demographics have developed more progressive views in 2015 except for “Black, Non-Hispanic”, “Baby Boomers” and “Black Protestants”.
