There’s more Republican Presidential candidates than contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Race

Yet another Republican has thrown their hat into the Presidential race – meaning there are now more people in the running to be President than to be America’s Next Drag Superstar.

Former Governor of Virginia Jim Gilmore, who held office in the state until 2002 – became the 17th person to announce that they plan to seek the Republican nomination this week.

There are now 17 Republicans in the running: Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, John Kasich, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Rick Perry, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum, Donald Trump, Jim Gilmore, and Scott Walker.

The ever expanding ‘clown car’ is overflowing with candidates known for their anti-gay views – but the sheer unprecedented size of the field presents a challenge as individuals struggle to stand out.

The candidate list is now bigger than the cast of most reality contest shows – and is more than the number of queens per season on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

There is space on stage for just ten candidates in the first Republican presidential debate, meaning that at least seven queens will be forced to sashay away in a dramatic elimination twist.

Perhaps the party could take a leaf out of the drag contest’s book and select its top 10 through a ‘Snatch Game’ impersonation challenge – Rick Santorum does a great impersonation of Westboro’s Shirley Phelps, and we’re sure Lindsey Graham does an epic Judy Garland.

The assembled candidates were mostly outraged last month, when loving gay couples across the US were finally allowed to marry.

Meanwhile…

And, Hillary…
