Tributes flood in for ‘national treasure’ Cilla Black
Tributes to the iconic singer and TV presenter have rolled in from across the entertainment industry and political world.
Surprise Surprise and Blind Date star Cilla Black has died aged 72, it was announced today.
Cilla, who also had two number one singles at the start of a showbiz career stretching over 50 years, died in Spain.
A Spanish police spokeswoman confirmed today that Cilla had died at her home Spain, The Mirror reports.
She said: āI can confirm the death of British national Priscilla White, aged 72.ā
Tributes have poured in for the star, with First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon and Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Sajid Javid highlighting just how many childhoods Cilla had been a part of.
Labour MP Chris Bryant paid tribute to Ms. Blackās generous nature and āwicked smileā.
Stars from the entertainment industry also paid their respects, with Holly Willoughby one of the first to honour her Surprise Surprise predecessor.
Joan Collins said she was shocked by the death of her āgood friendā.
And TV presenter and journalist Piers Morgan captured the nationās reaction to the āvery, very sad news.ā
Cilla ā a long term friend of fellow TV presenter Paul OāGrady and other LGBT stars ā had previously spoken of her iconic status within the gay community.
āI donāt know why Iāve got so many gay friends. I just seem to attract gay men.

The starās cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
