Clean Bandit star’s relationship with Olly Alexander ‘quite intense’
Neil Amin Smith has opened up about his relationship with Years & Years front man Olly Alexander.
Amin-Smith discussed his relationship with Alexander over the weekend saying, admitting the pairās relationship is āquite intense.ā
Stepping off Nandosā Cock oā Van stage at Camp Bestival, the violinist said: āOlly and I are romantic with each other, we have to because we donāt see each other very much so when we are reunited itās always quite intense,ā reports GT.
āIt was Ollyās birthday recently and he was going to be in New York arriving at his hotel so I arranged for a really nice bunch of flowers to be waiting for him.ā
However, those looking forward to a collaboration between the two acts should not hold their breath, as Neil went on to say: āI donāt think we will work together as Clean Bandit and Years Years.ā
Last month, Alexander hit out at other openly gay singers, who sing about gender-neutral love interests instead of men.
He said of his debut album: āIt was important for me to get some male pronouns in some of the songs, so I did it for āRealā and āMemoā, and then one song on the deluxe.
āIt is kind of sad to me that we donāt have gay popstars singing about men using a male pronoun, but that could change hopefully.ā
āIād like to hear a gay artist express their sexuality in a really open way.
āThatās something Iāve sort of tried to do a little bit on this album, but to be able to talk about sex is possibly new for gay artists, so Iād like to see that in the mainstream.ā
He also discussed the track he wrote for Amin-Smith, Shine, admitting he wanted āto crawl in a hole and dieā when he first played for him.
āIt was really horrible because I didnāt care if anyone else liked it or not, and I know he wouldāve said he liked it, but it really mattered to me whether he truly liked it or not. But he did, and I was so relieved.ā
