Neil Amin Smith has opened up about his relationship with Years & Years front man Olly Alexander.

Amin-Smith discussed his relationship with Alexander over the weekend saying, admitting the pairā€™s relationship is ā€œquite intense.ā€

Stepping off Nandosā€™ Cock oā€™ Van stage at Camp Bestival, the violinist said: ā€œOlly and I are romantic with each other, we have to because we donā€™t see each other very much so when we are reunited itā€™s always quite intense,ā€ reports GT.

ā€œIt was Ollyā€™s birthday recently and he was going to be in New York arriving at his hotel so I arranged for a really nice bunch of flowers to be waiting for him.ā€

However, those looking forward to a collaboration between the two acts should not hold their breath, as Neil went on to say: ā€œI donā€™t think we will work together as Clean Bandit and Years Years.ā€

Last month, Alexander hit out at other openly gay singers, who sing about gender-neutral love interests instead of men.

He said of his debut album: ā€œIt was important for me to get some male pronouns in some of the songs, so I did it for ā€˜Realā€™ and ā€˜Memoā€™, and then one song on the deluxe.

ā€œIt is kind of sad to me that we donā€™t have gay popstars singing about men using a male pronoun, but that could change hopefully.ā€

ā€œIā€™d like to hear a gay artist express their sexuality in a really open way.

ā€œThatā€™s something Iā€™ve sort of tried to do a little bit on this album, but to be able to talk about sex is possibly new for gay artists, so Iā€™d like to see that in the mainstream.ā€

He also discussed the track he wrote for Amin-Smith, Shine, admitting he wanted ā€œto crawl in a hole and dieā€ when he first played for him.

ā€œIt was really horrible because I didnā€™t care if anyone else liked it or not, and I know he wouldā€™ve said he liked it, but it really mattered to me whether he truly liked it or not. But he did, and I was so relieved.ā€
