Police vehicles given colourful Pride makeover
A police force covered a patrol car and a motorbike in rainbow colours ahead of Brighton Pride this weekend.
The two Sussex Police vehicles were decorated with graphics showing rainbows, brightly coloured stars with the word “Pride” – in a design The Daily Mail labelled “garish.”
Highlighting the price of the transformation, the Mail claimed decorations cost “hundreds of pounds”.
“The stickers, which cost £225 and were done by Bluelite Graphics Ltd in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, will be removed after the celebrations,” the Mail reported.
Sussex Police made an announcement before the parade, encouraging festival goers to get involved: “We’re all ready for the 25th Brighton Pride celebrations!
“We’ll be in the parade, as well as having a stall in the park. Please do give us a wave and come and say hi.
“You’ll be able to have your photo taken with our motorbike, take part in a police line-up and pick up various goodies and advice.”
This year’s Brighton Pride celebrations were set to be the biggest yet – with over 160,000 people attending to celebrate the festival’s 25th birthday.
Explosives officers were forced to divert Brighton’s Pride Parade, causing a delay to today’s celebrations.
A police spokesperson confirmed the existence of a ‘suspicious package’ on the city’s seafront, just a few yards away from where the parade was set to leave.
The parade instead proceeded from Lansdowne Place and along Western Road, before following its original route from the clock tower, reports the Brighton Argus.
