Sam Smith hits back at homophobic ‘faggot’ poem
The singer has shared a link to a social media account set up to post abusive comments about him.
Smith tweeted the link to an account named “Gay Sam Smith” – which includes numerous homophobic slurs – however, the singer said he wasn’t going to let it bother him.
Instead, he said he wanted to shed light on how prevalent homophobia still is in today’s society.
“This genuinely doesn’t offend me, coz I’m way too tick (sic) skinned when it comes to this kind of sh*t.
“BUT I just wanted to share this with everyone, so you can see how homophobic is still SO PRESENT in our society!!”
The award winning singer has previously admitted to enjoying the idea of people who oppose LGBT rights listening to his music.
The singer – who came out last year – claimed that he has fans who still have no idea about his sexuality, which is not overtly referenced in his music.
He said: “I like the idea that there may be homophobic guys who listen to my record and they have no clue that I’m gay!”
Smith does not explicitly refer to a male love interest in his music, explaining previously:
“I don’t want to limit to just one community. I want to reach everyone, gay people, lesbians, transsexuals, straight people, Catholics, anyone.”
