Stephen Fry, Mel Giedroyc and Emma Bunton for Rocky Horror
Stephen Fry, Bake Off’s Mel Giedroyc and Baby Spice are all to feature in a stage revival of the Rocky Horror Picture Show
A special limited revival of the cult classic is being held in September marking the 40th anniversary of the musical’s screen release.
The run at the West End’s Playhouse Theatre. – which will be aired live in cinemas across the UK – marks the 40th anniversary of the musical’s screen release.
It was announced today that Emma Bunton, GBBO host Mel Giedroyc, and QI host Stephen Fry will join the show for a special gala performance on September 17, in aid of Amnesty International.
Sadly Stephen Fry will not be playing Frank N Furter…
Although some have suggested roles for the famous faces – Baby Spice could be a feisty Magenta, and we’d kill to see Stephen Fry as Frank N Furter – it has been revealed that the three will be sharing the role of the Narrator.
They will also be joined by Rocky Horror creator Richard O’Brien – who wrote the original musical and screenplay – who will be performing in the show for the first time in 20 years.
Some may recognise O’Brien from the Crystal Maze – as well as playing Riff Raff in the 1975 Rocky Horror film adaptation.
Fry said: “I’ve been a devoted fan of The Rocky Horror Show for most of my life and I have been proud to support the incredible work of Amnesty International for just as long, so to be joining Richard and the cast on stage for this special evening is a dream come true.”
Emma Bunton added: “I am so excited about being involved in the legendary Rocky Horror Show. Richard O’Brien has written something that is a huge part of British culture. I’m looking forward to shaking my tush to the ‘Time Warp!’”
As well as the celebrities, the cast includes Olivier Award winner David Bedella, who will be sliding into Dr Frank-n-Furter’s fishnets, Ben Forster as Brad, Haley Flaherty returning as Janet and Kristian Lavercombe portraying Riff Raff – Lavercombe has previously played the role in over 1000 performances around the world.
I’m sure you’re all shivering with antici…
The Rocky Horror Show runs at the Playhouse Theatre from 11 to 19 September, before embarking on a UK tour in December.
