Marc Jacobs: We should stop defining people by their sexual preference
Gay fashion designer Marc Jacobs said he doesn’t want to be defined by his profession or sexuality.
Speaking to T Magazine, the designer said that after Caitlyn Jenner came out as transgender, he grew bored of labels and identification.
He said: “I think it was after the Caitlyn Jenner thing, and I just said, like, can we just start calling people by their name?
“You know, not what they do for a living, not what their sexual preference is, not their age, not who they’re related to. It’s 2015.
“Just say, ‘Hi, I’m Caitlyn.’ ‘Hi, I’m Marc.’ It’s not like, ‘I’m Marc, homosexual Jew from New York’.
“You know, ‘fashion designer’.”
The designer surprised fans earlier this year – when he accidentally uploaded a naked picture of his own rear end to his public Instagram.
He later said the mix-up happened while he was trying to flirt with a man on the internet.
He said: “Yeah. I accidentally posted a pic of my bare ass and took it down. I was flirting with someone I met on Instagram.
“I apologise to anyone offended… I’m a gay man. I flirt and chat with guys on line sometimes. Big deal!”
Marc Jacobs previously used his fashion brand to campaign for same-sex marriage.
