Politician wants to ‘examine’ teenagers’ genitals before sporting events
A politician in the US has proposed that trans teenagers have their genitals ‘examined’ before sporting events.
Roger Hunt, a Republican legislator in the US state of South Dakota, has proposed the legislation.
It would require a visual inspection of transgender athletes’ genitals before competing, as well as a check of the athlete’s “original birth certificate”.
He proposed the legislation after the South Dakota High School Activities Association board of directors changed its policy to allow students to choose which gender group to compete in.
“This is South Dakota. We haven’t adopted the East Coast culture. We haven’t adopted the West Coast culture. We maintain our own culture,” Hunt told the Rapid City Journal.
Legislators had attempted to overturn the policy change in the high schools, but bills did not pass through the state Senate.
There is a change the association board may change its policy again – this is due to the political objections to it.
