Ontario unveils advert for new, inclusive, sex education curriculum
The Government in Ontario has released an ad for its new sex education curriculum which includes same-sex marriage.
The new curriculum was unveiled in February – it includes consent, sexting, and a number of LGBT issues.
The ads, both in French and English, were released on the internet on Monday ahead of the new school term.
It features young people in five different situations touching on cyberbullying, to seeing a wedding cake with a same-sex wedding topper.
Other themes include a girl who is tempted to take a provocative photo, and another who is concerned with her body image in the mirror.
Education Minister Liz Sandals told CBC News: “Parents play an integral role in their child’s education, and we’re launching this campaign so that parents have factual information about what’s in the updated curriculum.”
She described the old curriculum as “dangerously out of date”, saying it needs an urgent update.
Some objections, mainly religious ones, have been raised against the curriculum.
The tagline for the advert reads: “Our kids have questions. The sex ed and health curriculum can help.”
