Clerk who can’t stop being anti-gay: ‘Prepared to go to jail’
A county clerk who just can’t bring herself to allow gay couples to tie the knot has said she is “prepared to go to jail”.
Invoking her biblical beliefs, Rowan County clerk Kim Davis continues to refuse to issue marriage licences to gay couples, despite a number of courts ordering her to do so.
In addition,Ā protesters have pointed out that DavisĀ has been married four times, and has given birth to children outside of wedlock.
SheĀ was previously caught on camera refusing to provideĀ a same-sex couple with a marriage license, and has continued to refuseĀ to marry gay couples ā despite a federal court orderingĀ her to.
Davis had appealed to the Supreme Court, arguing that religious freedom means she doesnāt have to do her job ā but this week the highest court in the US also refused to issue her a stay.
Speaking to Fox News, she said: “Iāve weighed the cost and Iām prepared to go to jail, I sure am.Ā This has never been a gay or lesbian issue for me. This is about upholding the word of God.Ā This is a heaven or hell issue for me and for every other Christian that believes.Ā This is a fight worth fighting.”
She went on: “They told my husband they were going to burn us down while we slept in our home…Ā Heās been told that he would be beaten up and tied up and made to watch them rape me. I have been told that gays should kill me.”
Joe Davis, Kimās husband, earlier this weekĀ wentĀ to check on her as protesters remained on the steps of her courthouse after several days.
He said they had changed their phone number after continually receiving threats, but suggested they would not hesitate to bearĀ arms.
āIām an old redneck hillbilly, thatās all Iāve got to say,ā Davis told the Associated Press. āDonāt come knocking on my door.ā
