This gay Christian athlete has a powerful message for Kim Davis
An out gay Christian athlete has taken aim at homophobic Kentucky clerk Kim Davis in a new video.
On Thursday, Rowan County clerk Davis chose to go to jail rather than issue marriage licences to same-sex couples, after continually refusing to do so, and several court orders instructing her to stop discriminating.
She was later given the option to simply allow her deputies to issue the marriage licences to same-sex couples in order to be freed from jail. She refused.
Earlier in the week, out athlete and LGBT activist Josh Sanders released a video criticising Davis for her stubbornness, and refusals to stop discriminating.
In it, he says: “The reality is this is discrimination. This is Kim discriminating against people like me because she doesn’t believe in my freedom to marry the man that I love.”
Continuing, Sanders, who was subjected to gay ‘conversion’ therapy before coming out in 2013, says: “We should have religious liberties. But never ever should our religious liberties take away the rights of a minority, or take away the rights of someone we disagree with.”
Found guilty of contempt of court, Kim Davis was remanded in custody by federal marshals.
The Rowan County clerk has continually ignored court orders instructing her to stop discriminating against gay couples.

Plaintiffs in the case asked that Davis be fined as punishment, but the judge in the case said she needed to be taken into custody.
The attorney for the gay couple who sued Davis told reporters that the clerk “holds the keys to her jail cell”, through her refusals.
Davis rejected a deal proposed by attorneys for the plaintiffs in a case against her, who said she could be released if she agreed to allow her deputies to marry gay couples.
US District Judge Dave Bunning said she should be remanded in custody until she complies with several orders, including one issued by him, that she stop discriminating against same-sex couples.
By 4pm on Thursday, five out of six of Davis’ deputies had agreed to Bunning that they would issue marriage licences to gay couples.
