Is Demi Lovato’s new song about lesbian sex? ‘I’m definitely not denying anything’
Demi Lovato has said she is ānot confirming or denyingā speculation ā after being asked if her new song was about experimenting with women.
The 23-year-old singer songwriter was awfully coy while appearing on Alan Carrās Chatty Man, talking about her new single Cool For The Summer.
The song includes a number of suggestive lyrics, including: āGot a taste for the cherry/I just need to take a biteā, and āIām a little curious, too / tell me if itās wrong, if itās right / I donāt care /I can keep a secret, can you?ā
She was quizzed about the meaning, with the host speculating: āI think itās got a bit of a sinister message ā well, not sinisterā¦
āI put it to you, Miss Lovato, that that song is about lesbianism! Can you confirm or deny this accusation?ā
She responded: āIām not confirming, and Iām definitely not denyingā ā before adding: āAll of my songs are based off of personal experiences. I donāt think thereās anything wrong with experimentation at all.ā
Carr, who is openly gay, joked: āThe trouble is I experimented once and it stuck.ā
The singer enigmatically replied: āHey, I didnāt say it didnāt stick either!ā
She would not be the first singer in recent months to open up about her sexuality through a song ā former child star Miley Cyrus recently confirmed that she is pansexual ā and released a free song that includes graphic details of her sexual encounters with women.
Speaking about why it seems to be a trend for female singers but not men, Lovato added: āI donāt think thereās anything wrong, if a very popular male artist came, and in one of his songs said āIām experimentingā.
āIf a guy sang this song who was straight, it would be such an uproar! Thereās a confidence to a man who would say āIāve experimented with menā and not care,
āI actually find that more attractive than somebody saying āno, thatās so wrong!ā.ā
