Actress Joan Collins has lead tributes to her late sister, saying she is ā€œcompletely devastatedā€ by her death.

ā€œShe was a true inspiration, a trail blazer for women in fiction and a creative force.

ā€œShe will live on through her characters but we already miss her beyond words.ā€

A host of stars have paid tribute to the iconic author, who sadly lost her battle with cancer on Saturday (September 19).

Stars from across the entertainment industry took to social media to express their condolences and share fond memories of the best-selling writer ā€“ who sold approximately half a billion books during her lengthy career.

Ms Collins was also a strong LGBT advocate ā€“ saying that many of her novels were inspired by the gay men in her life.

ā€œIt may sound clichĆ©, but some of my best friends are gay and I always have a better time with them than I do straight people,ā€ she told The Advocate in 2014.

Collins was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2009 but chose to keep her illness out of the public eye, and told People in an interview on September 14 that she had no regrets.

ā€œLooking back, Iā€™m not sorry about anything I did,ā€ she said. ā€œI did it my way, as Frank Sinatra would say.
