Margaret Thatcher is coming back as Queen of Soho for Christmas
Will your Christmas wish come true? It might have done already – Margaret Thatcher is making a comeback as Queen of Soho.
Lady Thatcher is coming back to London in December for a three-night run of drag comedy Margaret Thatcher Queen of Soho.
In the show, Matthew Tedford plays a version of Thatcher who becomes a gay icon instead of passing Section 28, the legislation that banned the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality to minors.
A release says: “On the eve of the vote on Section 28 Maggie gets lost in Soho and accidentally becomes a cabaret superstar, but will she change her mind about the homophobic bill before it’s too late…?”
The show previously found notoriety when Maggie ran into a one-time adversary, Mr Jeremy Corbyn, as she performed at Edinburgh Fringe.
Corbyn and Thatcher posed for photos together, with some newspapers splashing the image and claiming he is “not credible to lead”
The show, co-written and directed by Jon Brittain, is now set to return to London, with Telford pulling on the tights once more to “give audiences an insight into the difference an individual could have made with a sideswipe at homophobia and censorship”.
Maggie, Queen of Soho will play a limited run from December 3 until December 5 at the Leicester Square Theatre.
