Trans waitress shares uplifting story of ‘stellar parenting’
The waitress has publicly praised a couple after the way they responded to their daughterās questions.
Liv Hnilicka ā of Minneapolis ā shared her uplifting encounter on Facebook.
āThis afternoon I was at my waitressing job on a beautiful early fall afternoon.
āTwo parents and their young daughter came in,ā she wrote.
āAs I was filling the water station, the dad came up to me and said: āMy daughter just asked if you were a boy or a girl. I didnāt want to speak for you so would you like to talk to her?’ā
Ms Hnilicka said she ānervouslyā agreed, approaching the familyās table.
āI heard you asked if I was a boy or girl,ā she said to the young girl.
āI think the important thing to remember is that everyone can be anything they want to be in this world.
āItās also important to try to be the best selves we can be for our family and friends, and even to strangers,ā she added.
āSo to answer your question, I was told that I was a boy when I was little and now I live my adult life as a girl.ā
She went on to tell the child: āIt sounds complicated but itās actually pretty simple,ā asking her: āDo you have any questions for me?ā, to which the child happily replied: āNope!ā
Ms Hnilicka said that she āwalked away feeling really good about parents intentionally engaging their children about possibly difficult topics.ā
āGiving people the power to voice their truths in this complicated world is beautiful and healing.ā
āWay to go, mom and dads out there making space for transgender/gender non-conforming people like me.ā
Her heartwarming story was shared on Facebook earlier this month, and has already earned nearly 6,000 likes.
