Donald Trump fails to mention God or gays in speech to Christian anti-LGBT group
Donald Trump has delivered a speech to a listed anti-LGBT hate group – in which he failed to mention homosexuality or God even once.
The reality TV boss, who is currently the frontrunner for the Republican Presidential nomination, spoke yesterday at the Values Voter Summit honouring Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, organised by the Family Research Council.
The Family Research Council is listed as an active anti-LGBT hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, due to overt homophobia, misleading anti-LGBT propaganda, and militant opposition to LGBT rights.
The Summit presented awards to Kim Davis and a number of other self-proclaimed Christian ‘martyrs’ who discriminated against gay people – but Trump failed to mention them at all in his speech.
The billionaire, who made clear to the crowd that he was speaking without a teleprompter, delivered a bizarre 25-minute speech in which he did not once mention Kim Davis, God, Jesus, gay people, LGBT rights or any of FRC’s goals.
Instead he spoke about his poll ratings and the size of his vast wealth empire, waved around a Bible, and at one point literally pledged to bring back the true meaning of Christmas.
Trump’s presence on the line-up was a surprise as he has attempted to shift on gay rights in recent months, declaring opposition to same-sex marriage a “dead issue” and supporting LGBT employment rights.
Tony Perkins, the President of the FRC, has been slammed in the past for repeated comparisons between gay rights and the Holocaust, but both he and his group continue to be prominent in conservative politics.
Perkins, who recently called for God to strike down President Obama for putting up rainbow lights at the White House, previously blamed gay people in the military for suicides in the armed forces.
The hate group leader previously claimed the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage could lead to “revolution”.
Just last month a Family Research Council pundit claimed that the military now embraces paedophilia and bestiality – because gay soldiers are now welcome.
Presidential wannabes Rick Santorum, Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Marco Rubio, Dr Ben Carson and Lindsey Graham will also speak at the summit.
However, Jeb Bush – currently polling second in the race – is not present on the line-up, and also absent is the only female Republican candidate Carly Fiorina.
