Gay marriage proposal on subway goes viral (VIDEO)
A gay marriage proposal that took place during a busy train commute has gone viral.
The video shows a young man kneeling in the middle of a rainbow-coloured carriage and propose to his boyfriend with a watch.
“Today, I invite all the people we know and do not know to bear witness,” he says.
He then takes the watch out of its box and puts it on his boyfriend’s wrist, and they embrace to applause.
The happy couple are surrounded by commuters who filmed the proposal on their phones.
“As usual, I was taking the subway home, but contrary to what I was expecting, I encountered a couple’s love,” one commuter wrote.
“I think this is really incredible.”
“I believe the road they walk is certainly not a simple one. As a spectator, I can only send my sincere blessings.”
Although not everybody was as supportive of the pair – with shouts of “disgusting” heard in the background – comments on the video have been overwhelmingly positive.
“Those who say it’s disgusting, you should admire their courage,” one commenter wrote.
In June, a gay couple threw a wedding ceremony in Beijing a day after the US Supreme Court legalised same-sex marriage, despite police warnings.
Although same-sex marriages not recognised under Chinese law, the pair decided they wanted to celebrate their love for each other by hosting the ceremony in front of friends and family – despite severe police warnings and a lack of support from the local community.
