Mom gives trans teen hormone therapy – watch her emotional reaction
A mother of a trans teen gave her daughter a life changing gift recently.
Corey Maison was in for a huge surprise, after her mother asked her to reach behind the sofa and pull out the present – oestrogen pills that she has been waiting more than two years to receive.
“Reach behind the pillow,” Erica Maison asks her daughter, in a video capturing the moving moment.
“What did you do this time?” Corey asks with a smile.
“Do you know what that is?” Erica asks when Corey pulls an item out from between the sofa’s cushions.
After realising what the box contains, Corey sheds tears of joy as she embraces her mother, in a moment that has had millions of viewers in tears too.
“Today after waiting 2 1/2 years she FINALLY got her oestrogen,” Erica wrote on Facebook about the great reveal.
“I picked it up while she was in school so she had no idea.
“We have been waiting months for the readiness letter to be finalised and sent to Chicago, so had no idea on a timeline of when it would actually happen,” she added.
Erica continued that she had to stop the recording because she and Corey “were both blubbering, sobbing fools.”
Erica described Corey as always being “feminine, even from the time she was very young” but wearing “boy clothes” in public.
After receiving a puberty-suppressing implant, Corey’s doctors determined that she’d be ready to start hormone therapy when she was 14.
And then, last week, the pharmacy called to say her oestrogen prescription was in.
“It was so surreal. I was shaking and crying the entire trip to the pharmacy,” Erica told BuzzFeed.
“I was trying to think of the best way to tell her that the day she had been waiting two and a half years for was finally here.”
“I want people to watch this video, and see the raw emotion of a transgender child that can finally live her life the way she feels inside.
“Maybe make them realise that people who are transgender are people just like them, but also people that are at much higher risk for violence and ridicule, over something they had no choice in.
“I promise you that no child wants to be made fun of, no child ever wants to be hurt, or picked on,” she added.
“No child would ever choose to be transgender, it is 100% how they are born.”
