Carly Fiorina denies saying that equal marriage is ‘law of the land’ despite video proof
Republican Presidential wannabe Carly Fiorina has tried to deny she said people should accept same-sex marriage is “the law of the land” – despite literal video evidence.
Fiorina is the only female candidate currently in the running for the 2016 Republican Presidential nomination, though she is trailing Donald Trump and Ben Carson in the polls.
The candidate previously opposed equality and insisted courts shouldn’t rule on the issue, but ahead of the Supreme Court ruling in May she conceded: “I think the Supreme Court ruling will become the law of the land and however much I agree or disagree with it, I wouldn’t support an amendment to reverse it.
“I very much hope that we will come to a place now in this nation where we can support their decision, and at the same time support people’s right to hold religious views and protect their right to exercise those views.”
However, in a strange twist, Fiorina has now claimed she never made the comments- despite video proof that she did.
She was challenged on the comments by right-wing radio show Jan Mickelson, who asked: “Here in Iowa, when you say Supreme Court decisions are the law of the land, that sets us off. Iowans got bludgeoned by decisions here, and we went through Civics 101, and we don’t accept the proposition that court decisions are the law of the land.”
Ms Fiorina told the host: “Actually, with all due respect, Jan… I think that is a quote from someone else, not from me. I know there are many Republican candidates, [John] Kasich among them, ah, who have said those exact words.”
Challenged again, she said: “I am not aware of having said that. I am aware of other candidates having said that.”
