Students forced members of the Westboro Baptist Church to flee ā€“ after the hate group tried to protest a transgender homecoming queen.

Kids at Oak Park High School in Kansas City, Missouri elected their classmate Landon Patterson as homecoming queen last week, with overwhelming support from the student body.

However, the news attracted hatred from the anti-gay lobby ā€“ with the Westboro Baptist Church attempting to stage a protest outside the school.

It did not go their way, however, with a large group of counter-protesters rallying to drown out the group.

The students carried signs reading ā€œLove winsā€ and ā€œWestboro Baptist Church needs Jesusā€, while chanting ā€œlong live the Queenā€.

Patterson said previously: ā€œGoing in, I didnā€™t know what to expect.

ā€œIā€™ve dreamt about it, freshmen year like ā€˜oh I wanna be that girl out there walkingā€™.

ā€œTo have my students and friends vote for me, makes me feel welcomed and loved. For who I am.ā€

Pro-Landon supporter Brian Scheetz told KFVS: ā€œWe want to show that Landon is a part of our community and a big part of the school. As a friend of my sonā€™s, weā€™re just here to show our support.
