Vote for PinkNews Advertising Campaign of the Year Award
Later this month, the third annual PinkNews Awards and tenth anniversary party will take place at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Celebrating the contributions of politicians, businesses and community groups towards what has been another historic year for LGBT equality in the UK, the event will also mark the tenth anniversary since PinkNews began.
The event – which is being generously supported by Lloyds Banking Group – will be held in Durbar Court and the Grand Locarno Suite, will feature an of high-profile politicians and ambassadors.
Speakers will include the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Sajid Javid, the Education Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities Nicky Morgan and Shadow International Development Secretary Diane Abbott.
Other guest include the Leader of the Liberal Democrats Tim Farron, Leader of the House of Lords Baroness Stowell, the former First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond, the Ambassador of the United States of America Matthew Barzun and the Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland Daniel Mulhall.
Further high profile speakers and attendees will be announced shortly.
While some of the awards are being decided by a panel of expert judges, we are inviting our readers to vote for a number of others.
This award is about celebrating the positive portrayal of LGBT people in corporate advertising.
Below are the nominations for the advertising campaign of the year.
Guinness – Never Alone
This stunning campaign featuring out rugby star Gareth Thomas, was launched by Guinness to celebrate “stories of strength of character and integrity from the world of rugby.”
Rather than focus on physical attributes of what makes a rugby player, this campaign looks to inner qualities like courage, empathy and resilience,” Guinness said in a release.
“The film celebrates the courage of Gareth, and most importantly, the empathy shown by his teammates when he came out.”
Hallmark – Put Your Heart to Paper
This moving Hallmark ad features Alex, a trans man, talking about how his mother accepts him “no matter what”.
The ad is released as part of the #PutYourHeartToPaper campaign, and features Alex talking about his mother – without realising she is actually watching from another room.
“I was afraid to tell her because I thought love would have conditions. The unconditional love that she’s shown has made me a better person.”
AirBnB – Host with Pride
AirBnB released this beautiful advert to coincide with Pride season.
The video features several LGBT couples talking about their relationships and discovering the world with each other.
They also discuss the challenges in finding places that welcome LGBT people to stay.
Matalan – Made for Modern Families
This fun campaign from Matalan aimed to show the range of different households in Britain today.
As well as lesbian mums Helen and Karen, the images also feature a young gay couple, Salih and Jason, who’ve been together for three years.
“I thought it could help those people who want to take pictures and be proud of who they are but don’t quite have the confidence,” the couple said.
Calvin Klein – Autumn/Winter 2015
This seasons sexy Calvin Klein Jeans ads feature a variety of same-sex couples – for the first time in the brand’s history.
The autumn campaign sees the brand take aim at the younger generations and promote LGBT equality.
The ads will feature the couples engaging in a host of different activities, from arranging hook-ups and sexting, to using smartphone apps.
