According to a politician, an English county with 500k people has NO gays
The leader of an award-winning LGBT support group has revealed a politician told him that “there are no gay people” in his county.
Daniel Browne said a local councillor wrote to him saying not to bother setting up Push Projects back in 2011.
He told the Coventry Telegraph he was told by the unnamed councillor in “there are no gay people in Warwickshire”.
According to mid-2013 population estimates, Warwickshire had a population of 548,729 people.
Browne, who did not name the councillor, said the letter also urged him to “reconsider” starting Push Projects.
The 31-year-old has since seen the LGBT organisation grow, and has won awards.
It has offered support and advice to LGBT people in Warwickshire for the past four years.
Browne said: “About four-and-half-years ago when me and my then colleague were putting together Push Projects we received a letter from a councillor.
“They said there wasn’t a need for an LGBT youth group and we should reconsider starting any organisation like this as they are no gay people in Warwickshire.
“We wrote back to them suggesting that they should reconsider their position.”
