David Cameron tells PinkNews Awards: Too many are denied chances because of who they love
Addressing the PinkNews Awards, Prime Minister David Cameron said that the battle for LGBT equality is not over.
Last night the PM addressed the third annual PinkNews Awards, which took place at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, via a video message.
He said: “Tonight is night for celebration.
“Not only are we celebrating a series of worthy winners, we are celebrating 10 years of PinkNews informing, entertaining and campaigning and reaching an incredible audience of over 10 million people in the UK, US and around the world.
“Over those years, one cause you have championed stands out: equal marriage. When I was being told it was the wrong thing to do, you backed me up.
“When the voices were ranged against it, you stood firm. And now there are thousands of couples celebrating their love for one another as equal under the eyes of the law.
“With Scotland now holding its first same-sex weddings, Ireland voting in a referendum to introduce them, too, and the Supreme Court in America ruling equal marriage legal the momentum is spreading across the world.
“But, as I said during my recent party conference speech, the battle for equality is not over.
“There are still too many people denied chances because of who they are and who they love, too many homophobic attacks taking place on our streets, too many countries where to be gay is to be a target of persecution.
“As we tackle discrimination, at home and abroad, I know PinkNews will be there, every step of the way.
“So congratulations to the winners, congratulations on your 10th birthday,and here’s to the next decade of PinkNews.
